Elegant Beaded Cabochon Tutorial

Elegant Beaded Cabochon Tutorial Direct Download! (Pdf, 275 kB)
In this tutorial, I have given complete instruction on how to create a beaded bezel for a cabochon. I have also given instruction on how to alter the bezel for different sized stones. The stone should be either round or oval for use with this pattern

Since cut stones are not calibrated & the manufacturers may round up when they give you the measurements, it's a difficult chore to try to write the perfect pattern for a beaded bezel. In this tutorial, I have taken the guess work out of it for you by telling you exactly what to do and where should my counts not work with your cabochon.

On the pattern pages, I have provided you with:

This tutorial will focus more on technique instead of exact supplies. Many of us already have everything needed in our stash closet to make similar earrings. I picked up these beautiful Paua shell cabochons from Fire Mountain Gems with the intention of doing a beaded bezel. Tried as I may, my labors proved fruitless. These were so thin, or low profile, that it wouldn't hold it's shape. Or it flip flops around until I just give up on getting that thing in there.

This technique works perfectly as you can see from the photo. I had the thought of cutting out a picture, covering it with clear plastic on the top and cushioning the back with an extra piece of the stiff stuff, and then continue with the techniques as written in this tutorial. It would make a beautiful fob! Or, what about encasing some cameos! Too thin for a bezel? Not for this!

Approximate Finished size:
Will vary with your choice of supplies
Supplies Used:
Delica 11/0, Size 14 or 15 seed beads, something to encase, stiff stuff and leather
