To the Native American Tribes that live on the great plains, the Thunderbird is sometimes known as "Wakinyan". The name Wakinyan is thought to come from the Dakota word kinyan which means winged. The Thunderbird is always surrounded by thick clouds which make it hard for him to be seen. But he is thought to be a great eagle who produces thunder from the beating of his wings and lightning from his eyes. He is shrouded in mystery.

Hummingbirds are different from other birds who gain their power for flight from the downstroke of their wings. Hummingbirds find a large amount of power in the upstroke as well. They flap their wings 50 times per second in the pattern of an infinity symbol. These seemingly tireless birds symbolize eternity, continuity and infinity.
